MASS Hotbox Residency
It’s time for the 12th annual HOTBOX Residency! For HOTBOX 2024, MASS is introducing an exciting twist to our standard programing: we're seeking artists ready to embrace cross-pollination. This year, we'll be selecting two Austin-based artists to embark on this HOTBOX journey together. While collaboration isn't mandatory, an openness to this distinct shared experience is encouraged.
HOTBOX 2024 offers a tangible studio at your fingertips, accessible 24/7!
MASS will provide both residents with a working studio space for one month, along with a $500 grant each, and opportunities to engage the community through our Close Encounters programming. Mark your calendars for the HOTBOX 2024 Close Encounters event on Saturday, August 24, from 7-9 PM. The two artists will open their studio space up to the public, offering a firsthand look at the fruits of their residency experience, in the manner of their choosing.
The aim of HOTBOX is to support and nurture projects that could not be realized otherwise, offering an avenue for experimentation and opportunities to test new work with viewer engagement.

Details
Shared studio space provided in MASS’s main gallery space. Studio is furnished with track lighting, air conditioning, a chair and work table, wireless internet, a ladder, and basic installation tools. Residents are welcome to utilize MASS’s surrounding uncovered outdoor space for installations, performances, or production. MASS offers no production workshops of any kind but, if necessary, can assist in finding available options to satisfy specific project needs. A $500 honorarium will be awarded to each chosen artist to assist in completing a successful residency.
Both selected artists will be offered the gallery space for a one month time period, from August 1-31, 2024.
Each resident will be financially responsible for transportation costs to and from Austin as well as for housing, living expenses, local transportation, production costs and any additional materials.

Who is eligible?
The Hotbox residency program is open to Austin-based artists working in any medium and any stage in their career.
